The Rev. Edward B. Simmons was named Executive Director of Mountain T.O.P. in 2006 after the retirement of founder and past Executive Director, George Bass. Simmons holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Florida, an MBA from the University of Houston, and received his pastoral training from Chandler School of Theology and Perkins School of Theology. He spent 15 years at Enron Corp. before entering the ministry in 1993. He is an ordained deacon in the United Methodist Church. He previously served several churches in the Texas Annual Conference as the Minister of Administration. Simmons had an 18 year affiliation with Mountain T.O.P as a camper prior to being appointed executive director. His call to full-time ministry in the United Methodist Church came while participating in a Mountain T.O.P. camp week. He has been married to his wife Glynn for over 30 years.

Julie came to Mountain T.O.P. in 2007 after serving in the Hurricane Katrina recovery efforts in Mississippi. At Mountain T.O.P, Julie is responsible for facilitating all programs within our various camps and ministries. She will also be the person primarily responsible for coordinating the ministry’s growing community development activities and in forming the new South Cumberland Community Development Partnership. Julie started out as a mechanical engineer, but migrated back over to the world of missions, a passion that began for her at Mountain T.O.P. as a youth.

Brooke joined the Mountain TOP Support Staff in the summer of 2015. Brooke’s job is to recruit new groups and individuals to come and serve in the different programs offered at Mountain T.O.P. throughout the year, as well as working to increase the awareness of what Mountain T.O.P. is and the outreach opportunities we are providing in our community. Prior to being on Support Staff, Brooke volunteered as a youth camper and served three summers on the Adults in Ministry summer staff, most recently as the Director. Brooke graduated from Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville, Georgia with a Bachelor’s degree in Community Health and Human Services. In addition to being involved with Mountain T.O.P., Brooke also enjoys spending time crafting, painting, hammocking and wearing anything monogrammed.

Olivia joined the Mountain T.O.P. Support Staff in September of 2015. She is the main contact for groups as they are preparing for their time on the Mountain, and coordinates with each group from the start of the application processes through a post-event follow-up to complete all administrative paperwork. Olivia graduated from Indiana University (IU)in May 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Tourism, Hospitality, and Event Management and minors in Business and Marketing. She finished up her degree interning at French Lick Resort as a meeting and event coordinator in the conference services department at the West Baden Springs Hotel. Prior to Support Staff, Olivia has been a camper for eight summers, one summer on summer staff, and most recently served on the Cumberland Pines Kitchen Staff. In addition to Olivia’s involvement at Mountain T.O.P. and IU, she also enjoys exploring new areas, water and snow sports, and considers herself to be the life of any good dance party.

Carly Warner – Program Manager – Resource Development
Carly joined our staff in January of 2015 as Program Manager – Resource Development. She will be primarily responsible for the acquisition and care of all the resources needed to support this ministry. This includes human resources (summer staff recruitment), financial resources (fundraising support & grants acquisition), Food Service and accounting support. Carly is originally from Germantown, TN. She graduated in the spring of 2013 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Mississippi State University where she studied Management and Communication. For the past year and a half, Carly has lived in Dallas, TX working at a startup software company called YourCause as an Account Management Lead. Carly has been coming to the mountain as a volunteer for the last 10 years and served three summers on the summer staff most recently as a Director.

Thomas Harness was named Program Manager – Service Area and Ministry Support in September of 2012. Thomas has previously been the Ministry Intern in the summer of 2012 as well as fall of 2010. Additionally, he served on the summer staff for three years. His first contact with the Mountain was as a camper in 2006. Thomas is responsible for assisting in securing projects for all fall & spring programs, assisting in the support of the summer staff Field Managers and serving as a member of the Program Team for ministry activities (camps, retreats, special activities, staff training). He hates the cold weather but enjoys fixin’ things in the yard and playing games with Trivette, his dog.

Scott Dorton joined Mountain T.O.P. support staff as Program Manager- Service Area & Ministry Support in February 2013. Scott’s job is to help with the assisting in securing projects for all Fall & Spring programs, assisting in the support of the summer staff Field Managers and serving as a member of the Program Team for ministry activities (camps, retreats, special activities, staff training). Scott has also served on Mountain T.O.P. summer staff in 2008, 2009, and 2010. Prior to joining Support Staff Scott graduated from Easter Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management. In his spare time Scott enjoys riding motorcycles, snow sports, and is a beard maintenance enthusiast.

Justin Campbell – Program Manager – Service Area and Ministry Support
Justin joined Mountain T.O.P. support staff as Program Manager – Service Area & Ministry Support in January 2015. Justin’s primary responsibilities are assisting in securing projects for all Fall & Spring programs, supporting the summer staff Field Managers, and serving as a member of the Program Team for ministry activities such as camps, retreats, special activities, and staff training. Justin has served 3 summers on summer staff (2010, 2011, and 2013) most recently as a Director. Justin graduated from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering. Away from the office, Justin enjoys cooking, traveling, dodging low-hanging ceiling fans, and playing pick-up basketball.
Buddy Boyce – Development Manager
Nathan “Buddy” Boyce serves as Development Resources Manager for Mountain T.O.P. His main focus is contacting individuals and companies for potential in-kind contributions. Buddy was a member of Blakemore UMC (Nashhville, TN) and had the opportunity to be a part of the first Mountain T.O.P. staff in 1975. He served on the field staff for 2 years and was camp director for an additional 2 years. Buddy graduated from the University of Tennessee (Knoxville) with a Marketing degree. He is an avid Vols fan and currently lives in Nashville.
Rachael grew up in the cornfields of Indiana, went to college in the cornfields of Ohio, and is excited about now being in the mountains of Tennessee. While at Miami University, she double majored in Professional Writing and Sustainability and minored in Community-Based Leadership. Rachael came to the Mountain as a YSM camper for 6 years, worked on Summer Staff for 3 summers. She most recently spent the summer as the Ministry Intern/JAM Director.
